Background
Trained in North Indian classical music and Composition at the Royal College of Music, London, composer and producer Jataneel builds his work through close collaboration with performers and specialist orchestrators. A Lucy Ann Jones and Leverhulme Scholar, he develops material in the rehearsal room with musicians, then partners with orchestrators to shape that material into detailed, performer-responsive scores.
A passionate impresario, he sees composition as a team artform and designs projects where singers, instrumentalists and creative collaborators are central to the music-making. His collaborative practice has led to work with artists such as Talvin Singh OBE (Royal Festival Hall), Kathryn Hunter (RADA), Jatinder Verma (National Theatre and Tara Theatre), Shammi Pithia, Pagrav Dance Company and Kadam, with projects featured on BBC and CBBC.
His chamber opera Ganga, created in dialogue with singers, instrumentalists and an orchestration team, was performed at the Tête-à-Tête Opera Festival 2022 and at the National Opera Studio in 2023, reflecting his commitment to collaboratively crafted, cross-cultural music theatre.
